Delish! We love Dreena! September 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Not the most extensive review but I wanted to add my 5 stars to this book's review. I made the Sweet & Sour Chipolte Tempeh with Sweet Potatoes tonight and it was amazing! I have all of Dreena's books and have found many additions for The Rotation though that rotation is getting pretty wide... :o) Thanks Dreena for all your delicious recipes and thoughtful insights. Best from NC!
Delicious meat free meals September 19, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I own several vegan cookbooks and like many of them. But what sets this one apart is the overall consistent deliciousness of the meals, as well as great suggestions for what dishes to serve alongside each other to make a complete meal.
Buy it! September 17, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Dreena is very helpful and so sweet! I only know this from reading her blog where I have asked her questions about recipes and she always gets back to me so quickly which is so awesome. What I love about this cookbook is that the recipes are fairly easy and most of all, HEALTHY. Other vegan cookbooks have some good recipes but they also have a lot of sodium and fat and sugar..Dreena's recipes are yummy but I don't feel guilty after indulging in them. She is also very creative! My current favorite recipes are Hide the Lentils Tomato Sauce and Super Charge Me Cookies (!!!!). I also like how Dreena notes what you can substitute certain things with...esp like dried herbs vs fresh herbs. All in all, this is a great staple cookbook, especially for new vegans.
Wheat Free Does Not Mean Gluten Free July 8, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Though I appreciate her effort to label each recipe, when appropriate, "wheat free," these wheat free recipes generally use spelt as a replacement. Though it is correct that spelt is not wheat, spelt does contain gluten, so these recipes, while more appropriate for those with a wheat intolerance, would not be appropriate for someone with Celiac disease.
I used her first cookbook quite a lot before needing to stop eating gluten because her muffin recipes, especially, were excellent. Admittedly, I haven't had much luck trying many recipes in this cookbook because of needing gluten-free recipes (not just wheat free) but I think this would be a good buy for vegans without other restrictions.
great book July 6, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This book has a little of everything-- appetizers, soups, salads, main courses, side dishes, desserts and drinks. I love how it's organized, and I have had great success with many of the recipes.
The absolute best recipe in this book are the Chocolate Peanut Butter cookies. You need to buy this book for that recipe because they are SO GOOD!
