Some Helpful Information September 21, 2009 Book Lover (Montana, USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a pretty good book in many ways. For me, the program is too hard with regard to eating strictly vegetarian. I need to have a little animal based protein here and there. That said, I found the excercises and the rest of the book to be quite helpful. This is a very worthwhile read for anyone who has Diabetes.
Diabetes Information, Recipes, and Exercise August 2, 2009 J. Lundquist (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The best part of this book for me is its information about the Type 2 diabetes disease process, food, and exercise. (The recipes may be great for someone else, but we found that just following the main ideas worked fine.) This book gives a better understanding of how Type 2 diabetes develops, and how to fight it, than I have read or heard before.
A relative of mine has been on the edge of Type 2 diabetes, with fasting blood sugar readings just below 125, and once or twice just above 125. Following the ideas in this book, even though we never used any of the exact recipes, has helped her reverse the trend. Her last fasting blood sugar reading, after maybe two months of trying hard to follow the ideas in this book, was in the high 90s. We are going to keep working, especially on the exercise. (This book's exercise section includes information I had never read before.)

Very useful and practical, detailed information about diabetes and the journey to a miracle. If you're looking for something short and to the point - this is not the book for you.
Single best book for Type 2 Diabetes. May 18, 2009 Steve Downing 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you're only going to buy one book after being diagnosed with diabetes or pre-diabetes BUY THIS ONE. I'm serious. Clear, well written, incredibly descriptive and informative. You'll be glad you did. I certainly am.
This Program Helps! A LOT!! March 1, 2009 John P. Fleming (NH) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
I had the good fortune to visit the LCA Center in Sulphur, OK, in June of 2008. I was a "guest" (really a patient) there for about two weeks of lectures, testing, eating only a 100% vegan diet, cooking/shopping lessons, and gentle exercise. I use both insulin and Metformin for Type 2 diabetes, which I've had for several years. After my stay--and still following (essentially) the vegetable-based diet, my A1C went from 6.6 to 5.4. After several months trying to stick to this regime, my A1Cs have been no higher than 5.5 and I've lost a lot of weight. My insulin dosage came down by 50 percent. Retinopathy has stopped advancing, and retinal swelling is gone. I'd recommend that you read this book and get the cookbook also. The key is the vegetable-based diet. The writing style is clear, and the recommendations have lots of scientific support and are not too hard to put in place in even a busy lifestyle. I moved from near despair to hope. Well worth the price. I even gave this material as gifts!
