5 out of 5 stars Love it or hate it   September 19, 2007

My husband and I are both American and were visiting a British friend who thought it would be funny to introduce us to "Marmite." Well, as a teenager int he 80's, I'd been exposed to Men At Work, so anything that looks like THAT and ends in "mite" is suspect to me. Now, the Aussies have Vegemite and the Brits have Marmite--each says his is superior. We are NOT talking about chocolate, here, remember. So, much to the surprise and disappointment of our friend, my husbands eyes lit up and said, "Oh My GOD, what IS THAT? I LOVE IT" So, being the nice wife I tend to be--I went looking for it and of course, only found it online.

I have Marmite on toast every morning. Although I have been told by an Australian friend that Marmite is not up to the standards of Vegemite, I cannot tell the difference. An English friend tells me Marmite is better. Go figure.:) I love it and make certain to never run out of Marmite. This is one of those: you either love it or hate it, things perhaps. I've been even told it's healthy for me *gasp*. Regardless, it's a good way to start my day.

I love this stuff having grown up in Hong Kong, then a British colony, we ate this stuff like water. It's an acquired taste though if you were not brought up on it. Spread it thin over bread and butter. Delicious!

The item arrived in a timely manner and was represented correctly. I'll use this company again.

5 out of 5 stars an acquired taste   January 13, 2007

It's too bad Mr Somma has little appreciation for Marmite and a naive, propaganda-inspired understanding of history. Marmite is an acquired taste and has to be used properly (sparingly). Used with a light hand, it is a savory delight, working equally well in soups or on bread and toast. It will be an absolute disaster if one tries to use it like peanut butter or jam. One only needs a little of the best things in life!
