Great DVD for Beginning Raw November 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great DVD for those new to raw food. The instructions are explained assuming the viewer has no kitchen skills. For example, instructions on how to cut vegetables is provided. The ingredients used are common supermarket fruits and vegetables. The only more exotic ingredient used is agave nectar in the desert, which can be substituted for either dates or honey (non-vegan). Lot's of helpful tips and variations on the recipes.
Perfect book if you are going raw November 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Recently I discovered eating raw. I went to my doctor's for my annual check up and did a blood test. I was totally freaked to discover my blood sugar was way too high. In a panic I called my sister and explained what was happening. In turn she told me about a book she had about getting started on eating raw. I read it, and completely changed how I ate that day. I lost 25 lbs in the first 3 weeks! And my doctor told me that if everybody had done what I just did she would be out of a job! That spoke volumes to me.
I should say that I am not 100% raw, nor do I ever intend on being 100% raw. Nor will I ever give up meat, as I am a carnivore at heart! Yes, I do cook the meat(it's a question that I'm asked all the time). I apply the 80/20 rule, and since I started 4 months ago I have lost 35 lbs and still appear to be losing. I have had absolutely no problems losing that much weight so quickly and my doctor didn't seem the least bit concerned, or surprised.
I've heard raw is the latest rage. This is not a fad diet for me. If I plan on not being a diabetic I'm going to have to maintain this life style change. Which is why I hate people calling it a diet, this is not Jenny Craig, or any of those other money making joke diets. The best part is that I love it! The craving for sweet or salty foods disappeared as soon as I started eating all those fruits. Plus, food just tastes so much better eaten raw. My problem was that I needed to take my raw experience to the next level. The one thing I truly miss about my old eating habits is the actual cooking of the food. Since I don't cook nearly as much as I used to I needed to find a close second. I started looking a books on preparing raw foods, but they contained way more information than I needed, or wanted. A friend, who knew I had gone raw showed me her copy of this book. As soon as I started skimming the pages I knew I had found exactly what I needed to get me going. I've tried a couple of recipes (loved them!) and can't wait to test out more. Even my husband is digging eating this way.
Excellent first book on raw foods October 30, 2008 This is an excellent introduction to a raw food diet. It is perfect for one or two people. This book contains clear and complete descriptions of equipment, staples, and how to shop. The recipes are easy to follow and are excellent. I use this book a few times a week now. It makes the transition to raw food easy and fun and wonderfully tasty.
Raw made easy. October 25, 2008 If you are new to the raw food world or are just curious. This video is a must see. Jennifer shows how easy it is to prepare great healthy raw dishes. I hope she will consider doing another dvd with more advanced recipes. She is very plesant to watch and explains things very well. Good job Jennifer, hope to see more from you. Thank You!
Excellent for the start-up enthusiast; makes the transition less painful. August 29, 2008 I have been considering the healthy transition to raw, but it is not easy. Ms. Cornbleet makes it palatable and doable with such simplicity, elegance, and logical. I highly recommend this book as a startup and move into more complex receipes as your pallate desires. One last note, because her examples and explanations (which I highly recommend her DVD) of receipes, use of tools and appliances, and preparation is so simplified, you want to do more and create more raw dishes. Anyway, great book for the newbie...
