Product Description
Comprehensive and well-researched, this new edition provides everything you need to know about making a healthy transition to a vegetarian diet or maximizing its benefits if already a vegetarian.

Updated with the latest recommendations for intakes of vitamins, minerals, proteins, and fats, the authors show how to achieve optimal nutrition for all stages of life. Easy-to-read tables, figures, menus, and food guides help you determine how to meet your nutritional requirements. You'll also learn what plant-based dietary components and factors play active roles in both the prevention and treatment of chronic illnesses.

And for practical application, over 50 new and easy recipes show how to incorporate highly nutritious ingredients - some of which may be unfamiliar. These delicious meals include contributions from chefs Joseph Forest, Ron Pickarski, Joanne Stepaniak, and Yves Potvin (Yves Veggie Cuisine) as well as favorites of the authors.

5 out of 5 stars Very informative!   December 20, 2009
T. Lovell (Murphy, NC)
I really enjoyed reading this book. I learned a lot about how to pair foods for maximum health benefits and which vitamins and minerals to be aware of in a vegetarian lifestyle. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about how their body uses the foods we eat (not just for vegetarians!).

5 out of 5 stars New Vegetarian   December 19, 2009

I ordered the book because I am interested in making the transition to being a vegetarian. Didn't realize how many different "types" of vegetarians there are. I haven't finished reading the book, but so far the information is helpful. Not sure I can get my family to make the transition and wonder how one cooks for a vegetaring/nonvegetarian family.

I received exactly what I ordered in a timely manner. Additionally, the customer service from the company I ordered from was outstanding. Would definitely buy from this seller again.

5 out of 5 stars !'d recommend this to anyone considering becoming a vegetarian.   July 27, 2009

This book is truly useful for those that are interested in becoming vegetarians, or even vegans. It covers a vast range of topics including protein and b12 which is always a question for newbies. On the other hand, if its your child that wants to become a vegetarian or a vegan, this book will help put your mind at ease. It's definitely one of the first books I would recommend to those moving from meat to meatless. There are a couple of others that you could also read and gain a wealth of knowledge and recipes from:

221 New Vegetarian Dishes

Delicious, Healthy And Easy - Tom's Vegetarian Cookbook: Easy Yummy And Nutritional Vegan Recipes

The Black Art Of Cooking: The Raw Truth

The Golden Age Vegetarian Cook Book

Vital Facts about Foods: Included: 200 + Longevity recipes & 250 Food Analyses References

For each of these books you can rely on, I love vegetables, and everything I have tried in these books was just great. In fact, between them all, I have really come to rely on them book not only for recipes, but for reference as well.

Oh, must go, I smell my dinner! :)
